Fujitsu Conducts Collaborative Field Testing of LTE
Tokyo and Kawasaki, Japan, March 16, 2009 — Fujitsu Limited and Fujitsu Laboratories Limited today announced that, in collaboration with NTT DOCOMO, INC., they have conducted successful field testing for Long-term Evolution (LTE), a core technology standard for high-speed wireless communications, using 4x4 MIMO. The testing took place in the Special Ubiquitous Zone, an area of the northern Japanese city of Sapporo in Hokkaido, designated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications in 2008 as a wireless communications testing area, and used prototypes of the wireless LTE base stations developed jointly by NTT DOCOMO, Fujitsu and Fujitsu Laboratories which, with the use of MIMO technology, resulted in high-speed wireless transmissions in the range of 120 Mbps (using 10 MHz bandwidth) in Sapporo's urban environment.http://www.fujitsu.com/global/news/pr/archives/month/2009/20090316-01.html

After a Siemens buyout, Fujitsu will cut EU products9 March 2009 - Computer manufacturer Fujitsu said it would prune its European product range after buying out Siemens’ half in their former joint venture Fujitsu Siemens Computers. Joseph Reger, chief technology officer of the venture, which is soon to drop Siemens from its name, said in an interview with the dpa-AFX news agency in Hanover that jobs would also be slashed during its absorption into the Japanese group. Fujitsu Siemens has already ceased sales of personal digital assistant (PDA) computers and flatpanel television sets, and would move next to thin out its range of personal computers.

March 16 2009 - DOUGLAS HAMILTON -- Japan is in the grip of its worst recession since 1945, with the latest data showing the world's second-biggest economy shrank in the last quarter of 2008 at its fastest rate for 35 years. Many experts expect it to remain in the doldrums until 2010. Japanese are calling the downturn that has hit their country the "Lehman shokku" - a reference to the economic shockwaves that swept around the world after the US investment bank Lehman Brothers collapsed in September of last year.

The two investors in Camelot which want to sell their shareholdings are to market their stakes collectively, potentially paving the way for a full offer for the National Lottery operator.
Cadbury, the confectionery maker, and Thales, the French aerospace group, are to begin a formal sale process for their 20pc stakes in Camelot next month. KPMG, the professional services firm which is advising Camelot, is understood to be overseeing the preparation of a sale document that will invite offers for both shareholdings from a single buyer.

Media Death March: Seattle P-I Stops Printing, Goes All-In Online The Seattle Post-Intelligencer publishes its last dead-tree edition Tuesday, the latest newspaper to succumb to the harsh realities of an internet economy where delivering bits is an increasingly inefficient way of delivering the news. News of the P-I's decision to publish online-only was telegraphed for weeks, and it follows the decision of the Rocky Mountain News to shutter completely, the Christian Science Monitor to publish online only starting next month and deep concessions by staff at another Hearst newspaper, the San Francisco Chronicle, to keep that newspaper afloat.
