Fujitsu ScanSnap: A Must For The Busy Real Estate Agent! April 29th, 2009 - Allen Hainge in Real Estate Technology, Real estate tech tools -- One of the Top 5 tools used by my CyberStars(r) is the Fujitsu ScanSnap. I continually hear from them how indespensible it is and about the number of time-saving money-making uses they have for this hardware. Here are two pieces on using the ScanSnap from two of my CyberStars(r). Each will be included in my upcoming eBook on how the CyberStars(r) use today’s technology to mee the needs of today’s consumer.
My Favorite Tool: Jackie Safran, RE/MAX Hometown, Metuchen, NJ -- My favorite tool (other than my Mac) is my ScanSnap scanner, the S500M for Mac. This phenomenal little machine has a small footstep so that it takes up a tiny space on my desk. It is so easy to use, and its speed always amazes me. It is very user friendly, and the scanned jobs are excellent. As a Mac user, it enables me to make anything into a PDF file that can easily be sent to a pc user and they can open the document. This machine gets my 5 star rating! I use mine mainly for turning contracts and other documents into PDF files so that everyone can open them. I use my ScanSnap instead of a fax machine as much as possible, as it will copy both sides of two-sided documents. At the end of a transaction, I scan all of the documents into one PDF file and then save in on a CD.

FT.com: Fujitsu reforms chipmaking with TSMC deal

By Robin Harding in Tokyo and Robin Kwong in Taipei: May 1 2009 -- Fujitsu is to outsource production of its most advanced semiconductors to TSMC of Taiwan as the restructuring of Japan’s chip industry gathers pace. The two companies said on Thursday that TSMC would make Fujitsu’s chips with features as small as 40 nanometres and that they would collaborate on future chips of 28 nanometres and less. The strategy amounts to a gradual exit from chip production for Fujitsu, which makes a range of processor chips, because it will not replace facilities in Japan as they become obsolete.

Fujitsu buys SAP Supply Chain Consulting
Liam Tung, ZDNet.com.au - 27 April 2009 -- Fujitsu has made its second Australian acquisition in as many months with the purchase of local SAP consultancy, Supply Chain Consulting. The acquisition adds to Fujitsu's existing local SAP interests and follows its $200 million acquisition earlier this year of Telstra's IT services business Kaz. Fujitsu Australia's SAP clients have included Lotterywest, the NSW Roads and Traffic Authority, and the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO). Vawdrey noted the acquisition would give its SAP consulting practice a presence in the Philippines. He told the Australian Financial Review today that it would add 400 staff to Fujitsu Australia's current headcount of around 5000, which was boosted following the acquisition of Kaz by 1500 from 3500.

Online resources for tracking swine flu April 27, 2009 by Don Reisinger -- The spread of a new swine flu is quickly becoming a worldwide concern. The Web, of course, is an ideal resource for learning more about it, but there is plenty of misinformation as well. Here are the sites we recommend turning to. The Centers for Disease Control : The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is the best swine flu resource on the Web. You can learn about the outbreak of the flu and find key facts that help you understand it. There's a video podcast by a physician, giving you in-depth information about the flu's signs and symptoms, how it's transmitted, and steps you can take to protect yourself. This should be your first stop.

Internet pirates beware: this man is out to stop you

David Lammy is taking up cudgels against the one in four of us downloading illegally, reports Richard Wray, The Observer, Sunday 26 April 2009 -- For a man engaged in the political equivalent of herding cats, David Lammy seems in a remarkably good mood. As intellectual property minister, the former lawyer - and friend of fellow Harvard alumnus Barack Obama - is charged with the Herculean task of dragging the UK's copyright rules into the digital age.
Alongside communications minister Lord Carter, meanwhile, he is trying to thrash out a deal between film, music, publishing and internet companies to prevent the creative industries, which the government hopes will help pull the UK out of recession, being washed away by the flood of illegal online file-sharing.

A New E-Paper Competitor

Pixels containing ink reservoirs could lead to bright e-readers that look more like printed paper
April 27, 2009 By Prachi Patel -- A new display technology could make electronic paper look more like the real thing. Conventional ink on paper has a much higher brightness and black-and-white color contrast than electronic paper. The new display, made by researchers at the University of Cincinnati, in Ohio, is designed to match the brilliance and contrast of paper. "We've demonstrated a technology where you have the brightness of paper, and color has the same saturation that you expect from printed media," says electrical- and computer-engineering professor Jason Heikenfeld, who led the work, which was published in Nature Photonics.

5 Things To Do With Dead PC Hardware By Serdar Yegulalp, InformationWeek - April 25, 2009 -- Learn the five best fates for dead PCs, notebooks, hard drives, and other gear. Hint: Letting them go to a landfill is not one of them. Recycling is. - Sooner or later, the PC I'm typing this on is bound to drop dead. One day I'll walk in here, push the power button, and hear a scrape and a clunk that tells me my hard drive is out of commission. Or, worse, I'll get nothing at all. Failing that, it's going to end up dying a different kind of death, although one that's every bit as ignominious -- it'll be yanked out and replaced with something a little more cutting-edge, because time and technology have moved on.

Customers Deploy Technology for News Contribution and Other Applications

Sunnyvale, CA, April 20, 2009 —
Fujitsu and Cisco have collaborated on the creation of a highly-efficient video contribution system for use over IP or satellite infrastructures. Designed to help service providers maintain high levels of video quality at lower bandwidths, the system delivers breakthrough low-latency performance for IP video transmission. By applying IP efficiencies to processes that traditionally have relied on legacy technologies, Fujitsu and Cisco are delivering the potential for significant cost and performance benefits for both content producers and service providers. Fujitsu and Cisco are demonstrating this solution at Fujitsu’s booth SU10921 at NAB 2009 in Las Vegas, April 20-23. Forward-looking operators are using Cisco® technology to evolve their network into a medianet, a network optimized for video and rich media that is highly scalable in reach and capacity, streamlines operations and accelerates service velocity.

Fujitsu Wind-Powered Laptop to Use Conventional Energy

That's definitely a nice marketing scheme

By Catalin Ivan, Gadgets Editor - 22nd of April 2009 -- Since it is Earth Day, I've been scouring today's press releases for something more Captain Planet-like. Since (oh, the cruel irony) I haven't found anything (up until now, that is) to fit the description, the “Planeteer” award goes to... Fujitsu and its wind-powered laptop that doesn't actually use wind power yet... it does! Thinking I've lost my marbles? Not quite. Keep on reading because this is as fascinating as it is funny. It appears that there's a lot of competition on the Japanese laptop market so Fujitsu decided it needed a new approach to what is otherwise an ordinary laptop: the FMV Loox. It seems that for each laptop sold, it will buy wind-power “green energy credits” equivalent to what it considers to be the amount of electricity consumed over a four-year period.

Oracle chief executive Larry Ellison gave a peek at the future in a teleconference announcing the acquisition Monday, saying Sun's $8 billion hardware business can move Oracle from being a software company to a provider of all-in-one technology "from database to disk."
