OVUM: Fujitsu strategy may rewrite evolutional theory of global IT services market

By Peter Clarke -- Ovum has been told by Philip Oliver, Fujitsu's Global Marketing Manager, that Fujitsu's restructuring is about building the Fujitsu name as a global brand and backing the global image with a truly global organisation. 'Regional' trading entities will be expected to work in each other's geographies if required, to build critical mass in markets.
Product is added to service in Europe to enrich offer
Philip Oliver has told Ovum that product is being added to service to enrich Fujitsu's offer in Europe. Fujitsu's go-to-market strategy will not simply be product led. Product-led sales will become an additional route to market, with or without services. Fujitsu will also go to market in Europe with services and consulting. Fujitsu believes that some customers will want to buy product, others will want product wrapped around with service, yet others will want service wrapped around another manufacturer's product, whilst some will want consulting and services. Fujitsu sees itself serving all these customers but now with a wider range of offerings. Product will include server, PC and laptop hardware and the offerings of Fujitsu Telecommunications.

AP to Aggregators: We Will Sue You

By John C Abell - April 06, 2009 -- (AP) The Associated Press board voted Monday to "pursue legal and legislative actions" against aggregators who use content without permission, a new shot across the bow of internet news sites in the war over how little use is "fair use." The AP named no potential targets, yet speculation immediately turned to Google. While the search giant pays the AP to host full versions of wire service stories, it generally does not have contracts with AP member newspapers whose headlines it also aggregates on its news portal. The AP has also made no bones about pursuing individual bloggers, as it did the Drudge Retort last June.

Australia to build broadband network

Apr 6, 2009 - CANBERRA (Reuters) -- Australia's government will build a new A$43 billion ($30.7 billion) national high-speed fiber-optic broadband network, rejecting bids in a controversial tender involving some of the country's largest telecommunications firms. Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said on Tuesday the government would ask private companies join a new private-public firm to build the network. The government would sell its majority stake after five years when the network was fully operational.

Facebook Quick Tip: Managing The Redesign By Mitch Wagner, InformationWeek - April 6, 2009 -- Facebook's redesign puts more information in your News Feed -- sometimes too much. Here's how to block updates from the noisiest pals in your social network, without un-friending them entirely. With the advent of Facebook's design changes a couple of weeks ago, the News Feed suddenly got to be much more crowded and busier, filled with random comments and observations, links, conversations, photos, and other minutiae. Some of us are noisier than others. Indeed, this article might also be headlined "how to get Mitch Wagner to shut up," because I am most definitely part of the problem. I just love to share on Facebook. How do you get blabbermouths like me to shut up and stop bothering you?

Fate of Sun's products up in the air

An IBM purchase of Sun would end up killing some Sun technologies but may help others
By Paul Krill (InfoWorld) 07 April, 2009 --
With rumors of an impending Sun-IBM merger becoming more intense late last week, the next big question mark pertains to what happens to Sun's vast product line, which has hardware and software that overlaps with a lot of IBM's own product lines. Observers -- including a former Sun employee, a former software developer for the Sun platforms, and the founder of the Ruby on Rails Web framework -- maintain varying perspectives on what to expect and offer degrees of both optimism and pessimism about the whole endeavor.
