Fujitsu Develops High-Speed Image-Capture Technology for Palm Vein Biometric Authentication
- World's first technology enabling biometric authentication while the palm is in motion -
Kawasaki, Japan, April 17, 2009 — Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. announced today the development of the world's first imaging technology for use in palm vein biometric authentication that can operate while the palm is in motion. The new technology requires approximately only one millisecond to capture the image, and performs with the same level of accuracy in authentication as previous iterations of this technology, resulting in an extremely user-friendly palm vein authentication system in which a person's palm needs only to be passed over a sensor for authentication.

Fujitsu Develops Secure USB Memory Device Featuring Automatic Data-Erase Function

- Provides a secure way to physically transport confidential customer data and internal data -

Kawasaki, Japan and Sunnyvale, U.S., April 17, 2009 — Fujitsu Laboratories Limited and Fujitsu Laboratories of America, Inc. today announced the development of two new technologies designed to prevent the unwanted disclosure of data from lost universal serial bus (USB) memory devices and prevent uploads to file-sharing networks: a USB memory device technology that after a fixed period of time automatically erases data stored on the USB memory, and a file redirect technology(1) which ensures that the data from the USB memory device can only be stored on a specified server. This creates a secure environment that protects confidential information and allows USB memory devices to be used as a convenient way to safely carry customer data back to one's own company to manage the data.

Richardson, TX, April 16, 2009 —
Fujitsu Network Communications, announced today that, according to data from Ovum, a leading telecom research and advisory service firm, Fujitsu has strengthened its top position in Aggregation (MSPPs/OEDs) and achieved market leadership for Metro WDM and ROADM in North America for 2008. United States: Fujitsu Introduces RPG to .NET Application Modernization Service

[April 17, 2009] (TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) -- The reason application modernization gets as much attention as it does in the IBM System i market is directly related to two widely believed drivers. Executives see it's possible to improve business performance and reduce application and infrastructure costs. How to reach those goals is another issue. Moving RPG applications to Microsoft .NET is one tactic, and it's brought a new vendor into the System i community. Fujitsu has begun to market a service it calls Progression.

Review: Fujitsu`s N7010 Desktop Replacement offers 16 inch LCD and 4 inch Touchscreen

2009-04-16 By Frank Ohlhorst -- The LifeBook N7010 from Fujitsu is a desktop replacement notebook computer that has all of the features that could fuel a new series of commercials on why a PC is better than a MAC. Microsoft has flooded the airways with a series of commercials that claim a PC is a better value than Apple’s Macintosh. Fujitsu must have been watching those commercials when the company came up with the LifeBook N7010 desktop replacement notebook. After all, the N7010 exemplifies many of the points raised in those Microsoft commercials – performance, value, software and ease of use.

Fujitsu creates self-nuking Flash drive

By James Sherwood - 17th April 2009 -- This drive will self-destruct in 5, 4... Fujitsu has developed a USB memory stick ideal for anyone prone to mistakenly leaving sensitive documents lying around on trains. Why? Because this Flash drive has a self-destruct mode. The secure USB drive is still a prototype, but Fujitsu said the storage device – which also contains a processor and battery – will automatically erase its entire memory after a user-set period of time, such as 24 hours. Alternatively, the drive can be set to automatically wipe its contents if plugged into an unregistered computer.

Fujitsu PalmSecure Mouse review

A mouse with an in-built palm reader but we can't help think it's a bit overkill

Fujitsu's PalmSecure Mouse uses a biometric reader to protect your personal data. It remembers any password and login details you tell it, be it for a website or document and, after scanning your palm, enters them for you automatically. Apart from the reader in the centre of the unit, the mouse is nondescript and ambidextrous. Installation is simple but set-up proves far more confusing.

Fujitsu’s Secure USB Memory Device With Auto-Erase Function

By Andrew Liszewski -- Today Fujitsu Laboratories announced a couple of new technologies that should help prevent data stored on a USB flash drive from ending up in the wrong hands. The first is the secure USB memory device prototype pictured above that may have been inspired by a piece of Babybel cheese. It works like your standard USB flash drive, but it’s got a processor and battery on-board that can be used to automatically erase the data after a specified amount of time, or if the flash drive is plugged into an unregistered computer.

Fujitsu Develops Self-Erasing USB Flash Drive

For the secure transport of confidential data

By Alex Vochin, Gadgets Editor, 17th of April 2009 -- The modern world, despite the numerous advantages is provides from the point of view of information transfer options, is also a very dangerous place, since ultra-secure, ultra-sensitive information can actually represent the target for all sorts of malevolent persons, who would use it for their own financial benefits. For this reason, numerous security solutions have been developed over time, each of them trying to lock down the data and make it inaccessible by anyone but their rightful owner. The last innovation in this field belongs to the engineers from Fujitsu. Hence, Fujitsu Laboratories Limited and Fujitsu Laboratories of America, Inc. have developed two new technologies designed to prevent the unwanted disclosure of data from lost universal serial bus (USB) memory devices and prevent uploads to file-sharing networks: a USB memory device technology that after a fixed period of time automatically erases data stored on the USB memory, and a file redirect technology.

OpenDNS helps complete your Web connections

By Elise Ackerman - Mercury News: 04/12/2009 -- You turn on your computer and try to log onto your favorite sites. Nothing happens. A message at the bottom of your screen tells you your computer is trying to connect, and trying and trying. Various thoughts pass through your head, none of them comforting. "My wireless network is down." "Google is down." "The Internet is down." "Someone has hacked into my PC." Relax. Your computer isn't broken. The Internet is still working. Your problem most likely has to do with an obscure software program that functions as the Internet's phone book. Most people rely on their Internet service provider to connect them to the domain name system. If the software fails, they wait for the ISP to fix it. But there is an alternative. A small San Francisco company called OpenDNS hosts a free phone book that some say provides better and more reliable service than major Internet service providers. OpenDNS takes the name of a Web site, such as the www.mercurynews.com, and matches it to the number of the computer where it is hosted, such as 209.203.69.2.

Japan abandons hi-tech goods for cheap basics

By Julian Ryall in Tokyo: 16 Apr 2009 -- Japan's struggling manufacturing sector must develop cheap products and services that appeal to consumers abroad and at home in order to survive the economic downturn, the government believes. Japan's economy has traditionally relied heavily on exports, but has taken a battering in the global economic downturn. Exports of vehicles and electronic appliances have been particularly badly affected. A new white paper, to be approved by the cabinet in May, advises manufacturers to target foreign markets in the same way that companies at home are appealing to Japan's newly thrifty consumers.
