- Fujitsu LifeBook N7010: Two Screens

March 4, 2009 By Eric Grevstad -- This can't be right. Fujitsu says its new desktop replacement notebook has a cinematic 16:9-aspect-ratio screen for watching high-definition videos or Blu-ray movies. This LCD divides out to 16:9 all right, but its resolution is too low. And it's only 4 inches big, for God's sake, you need to squint to see the actors and -- Oh. Sorry. Our bad. We were looking at the wrong screen. The other one is a good 16 inches diagonally. The Blu-ray player works fine with it. For $1,499, the Fujitsu LifeBook N7010 is a laptop that gives you two displays. The main screen is a 16-inch, HD-ready CrystalView panel with 1,366 by 768 resolution (though HD snobs will sniff that Fujitsu's definition of high definition is 720p rather than 1080p).

- VIDEO: Merle Aiko Okawara, Chairman - JC Comsa Corporation

Merle Aiko Okawara, Chairman of JC Comsa Corp. was described by Forbes Magazine as one of these people who climb mountains just because they are there. And, indeed, building a successful business in male dominated Japan was as arduous as trekking up Mount Everest in mid winter. A third generation Japanese born in Hawaii to a successful entrepreneur, Okawara was brought up in a "Can Do" environment which served to strengthen her determination to succeed whenever faced with opposition.

- Windows 7 gets down to business

March 4, 2009 by Ina Fried -- With Windows 7, Microsoft is trying not to make the same mistakes it did with Windows Vista. That much is clear. One of the biggest things Microsoft is trying to do different this time is be a more dependable software vendor. The company knows it lost some credibility with businesses by changing its Vista plans midstream and also having several delays. "We know the stop and start nature of Vista created big challenges for our customers and partners," Microsoft senior director Gavriella Schuster said in an interview this week. Microsoft is aiming to get Windows 7, currently in beta, ready to go in time to be included on PCs sold during the 2009 holiday shopping season.

- Server Slump: Vendors Stung By Falling Sales

March 04, 2009 — Techworld By John E. Dunn -- If companies around the world are freezing IT spending then it's the server market that appears to be bearing the brunt of the financial chill. If companies around the world are freezing IT spending then it's the server market that appears to be bearing the brunt of the financial chill. According to the latest Gartner figures, worldwide server shipments declined by 11.7 percent in the fourth quarter of 2008 compared to the same period a year earlier, which added up to a nasty 15.1 percent contraction in overall revenue.
