The whole GPS navigation system was utilizing network cloud service for map data and route computation - leaving only data transfer to for Android - which shouldn’t have any speed problems in a place like Japan.

Shinoda Announces Super Thin, Super Lightweight Life-size Plasma Display

18/05/2009 -- Shinoda Plasma Corp.’s next generation plasma display measures 145-inches diagonally and is tall enough to show life-size images. Shinoda Plasma Corp. of Kobe City, Japan, has introduced what the company describes as a next generation “super thin, super lightweight” plasma display measuring 3 meters (9.8 feet) wide by 2 meters (6.6 feet) tall. The PTA (Plasma Tube Array) display, which is comprised of six 1-by-1-meter (3.3-by-3.3-feet) panels is a grown-up version of the 3-meter (9.8 feet)-wide by 1-meter (3.3 feet)-tall, 125-inch diagonal display it showed last October at the FPD International 2008 exhibition in Yokahama, Japan. The plasma tubes used in the display are 1-mm-diameter glass tubes containing a discharge gas and fluorescent materials for RGB colors. According to the company, the flexible display uses a 1 mm thick film on its curved surface, which contributes to the life-size display’s nominal 7.2 kilogram (15.8 pound) weight.

Shinoda Plasma showcases 125-inch curved PTA display

Darren Murph, May 16th -- Surely you remember Shinoda Plasma and its obscenely large PTA display, right? Unfortunately, this one's no 142-incher, but 125-inches of curvaceous screen real estate still isn't anything to sneeze at -- especially when we're talking about an actual prototype. The 3- x 1-meter display consists of three PTA (plasma tube array) modules connected together, and it features a rather uninspiring 960 x 360 resolution but weighs just 7.9-pounds.

Japan’s love hotels are a big hit

May 21 2009 - Chris Cooper and Makiko Kitamura - Tokyo --
AT 6:30 p.m. on a Friday, Frank Sinatra Strangers in the Night fills the lobby of the Hotel Mario outside Tokyo. A couple scans a board showing photos of the 50 rooms, rentable for a few hours. Only three are left. Japan’s 25,000 love hotels are making money even as companies such as Sony Corp., NEC Corp. and Nissan Motors cut jobs amid the worst recession since World War II. Lovers can get a couple of hours of privacy for as little as 3,000 yen ($30), the cost of entry at a Tokyo nightclub, in a country where adults often live with their parents until their 30’s.
